NGO CARRIES OUT 60 FREE SURGICAL OPERATIONS ON CATARACT
No fewer than 200 indigenes of ugbojor Itsekiri in Ogun Aja, Sapele, Delta State, few Days ago hived a sigh of relief as they were screened, treated and surgical operation carried out for free on those suffering from cataract, while some went home with reading glasses.
Dr Okorodudu Mejuya who led other members of the organization, Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation from Benin in collaboration with Ugobojor Itsekiri USA inc., Said that the kind gesture was borne out of the desire to help humanity, prevent unnecessary blindness that people are suffering due to lack of adequate information and care as regard their sight.
He Said “ For me, it is not the money but the opportunity to give back to my people, I will be glad if I can make one of my people see again”
He Advised the recipients to take free eye screening seriously and not to trivialize the gesture, saying it cost them a fortune to organize the programme. He also cautioned them to take good care of their because, according to him, the eyes are the most essential part of the body
Dr Okorodudu further called on Nigerian leaders to do all they could to prevent people from going blind through constant sensitization of the public on how to prevent unnecessary blindness as they owe it as a duty to make them see with their eyes through their life time
